Doorsteps have received a lot of media attention for the fact they offer sales packages starting at just £99. Their founder, Akshay Ruparelia, has been nominated for several entrepreneurial awards. So, let’s see how they get on in our full Doorsteps review…
Our Rating = 8.5 / 10
Lowest Price = £99
No Sale, No Fee Price = Not Offered
Best Thing = Low-Cost Entry Price
Worst Thing = No Option To Pay On Completion
What Do You Get With The Cheapest Package?
Doorsteps stand-out point is that they allow you to sell your property for just £99 including VAT. This is, without a doubt, an eye-catching price. But, what exactly do you get for your money? Well, as standard, all packages include the following:
- Dedicated account manager
- Free instant valuation
- Your home listed on Rightmove and Zoopla
- Weekly reports on request
- Professional negotiation and sales progression services
That means you’ll be missing a few elements you would expect from a traditional estate agent such as them taking photos and creating your property listing, however, you’re obviously only paying a fraction of the price.
Are There Other Packages Available?
Yes, the £99 package is very much a DIY-style service. Sure, you get some help but you’ll be doing a lot of the work yourself. In particular, if you want some help creating an eye-catching property listing for the portals, you’ll need to upgrade to one of the higher priced packages.
For £199 including VAT, you get everything from the £99 package, plus photographs, a 2D floorplan, and a property description written for you. That makes it much closer to what a traditional estate agent would offer.
There is also another package priced at £599 including VAT. This includes everything that’s already been mentioned plus listing upgrades on both Zoopla and Rightmove as well as ‘For Sale’ board for your property. In essence, this means you’re paying the extra to give your home more visibility and increase the chances you’ll find a buyer quickly.
Do They Offer Hosted Viewings?
Yes, Doorsteps do offer a hosted viewings service, though it’s not included as standard in any of their packages. This means you have the flexibility to choose whether you want to pay for them or not.
If you do want to add them on, they’ll cost an additional £400 on top of your package price. At first glance, this looks quite expensive compared to many other online estate agents. However, you should keep in mind that unlike most, Doorsteps offer unlimited hosted viewings.
That means you won’t have to pay extra if your property proves particularly popular. In addition, the viewings can be done 24/7 which is actually better than most traditional high street agents would offer.
What We Like About Doorsteps:
I mean, it’s rather obvious but we do love the low prices that Doorsteps offer. It’s very much the core of their offering and it does position them in quite a favourable place in comparison to other agents, even online ones.
We also like the fact that, despite the budget price, they don’t skimp on some of the other plus points of online agents. For example, you’ll still get a customer area you can log in to and see all of your viewing appointments and other details.
Your account manager will also be actively taking calls from buyers and booking viewings for you so you’re not having to deal with multiple people all at once. In that sense, Doorsteps is not unlike a traditional estate agent at all.
What To Look Out For:
There isn’t too much you need to be wary of with Doorsteps. The lack of an option to pay on completion is a downside. It means that whichever package you go for, you’ll have the risk that if you don’t find a buyer you’ll be out of pocket.
Also keep in mind that the cheapest package means you’ll be creating your property listing yourself and no matter which package you’re on, you won’t get any viewings conducted for you unless you part with an extra £400. How important this is to you depends on how much time and inclination you have to do the work yourself.
Why Use Doorsteps?
Put simply, use Doorsteps if you want to save the most amount of money when selling your home and you don’t mind doing some of the work yourself.
In return, you’ll save thousands compared to typical high street agent prices and you’ll even save a few hundred compared to using a typical online estate agent who does most of the work for you.
Doorsteps Reviews From Customers:
Here’s a selection of Doorsteps reviews taken straight from their Trustpilot page:
Doorsteps Reviews Conclusion:
Overall then, Doorsteps offer an all-round good service at a very low price. While you’ll need to do much of the work yourself on the cheapest package, the £199 package, in particular, is excellent value.
The level of service you receive appears to be much higher than you may expect from a budget estate agent too. One look at their customer reviews on TrustPilot paints a very good picture indeed with an overall 5-star ‘Excellent’ rating at the time of writing.
The downside is that if you need hosted viewings, they are quite pricey. While you do get unlimited viewings 24/7 included, at £400 extra it may put many people off. That’s partly because it means you either need to want to do all viewings yourself or none of them. If you don’t mind doing some of them yourself but want the convenience of knowing the agent is there to help out when required, you may be better off looking elsewhere.
That said, it’s a relatively small negative when you look at the bigger picture and for that reason, we can fully recommend Doorsteps for anyone looking to sell their property for the lowest possible cost.
